Q:

What can I do to keep the devil away from me? A friend of mine says I need to buy a good luck charm from a psychic he knows, because it would have magical properties that would ward off the devil. Is this true?

A:

No, it is not true—and I strongly urge you not to go down that path. Most likely, you would simply be throwing your money away—but at worst you could find yourself involved with spiritual powers that are not from God but from the devil. We don’t keep the devil away by following his lies and superstitions!

Instead, I urge you to turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him. You see, when we turn our lives over to Christ some very important things happen to us. For one thing, He forgives all our sins, because He has already paid the penalty for our sins through His death on the cross. Think of it: He will forgive every sin you have ever committed!

But something else very important happens to us: We become part of God’s family forever! He adopts us as His own, and we become His sons and daughters. Nothing (including the devil) can ever change that, for “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers … nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). What a great promise!

Satan is a defeated foe; he was defeated through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection for us. Don’t let him have any hold over you, but open your heart and life to Christ today.
