George Beverly Shea, mostly known as the musical mainstay of the Billy Graham Crusades, was recently honored in his hometown of Winchester, Ontario at the church where his father was the pastor long ago.

On Friday, July 31, the Salvation Army presented the 100-year-old singer and composer with the Great Commission Award and Exceptional Service Recognition at the Winchester Wesleyan Church (a Methodist church during Shea’s father’s pastorate).

Additionally, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) presented Shea with a certificate of recognition from the RCMP Veterans’ Association, Ottawa Division, as well as a special pin.

As a young man, Shea began RCMP application process. He decided not to go through with it, fearing he would be posted in a remote location like the Northwest Territories.

Shea has recorded more than 70 spiritual records, appeared on countless radio shows, and won a Grammy Award (he has received 10 nominations).
